Common faults of dot matrix printer

Nov 20, 2022

When using dot matrix printers, the most common is ribbon failure, and several printer ribbon failures are described and solved below.

First, the ribbon is broken. The tension of the ribbon is too large, and the ribbon is broken by pulling the suture or the word hammer breaking the ribbon. In the former case, the broken part can be cut off and re-stitched; In the latter case, simply replace the ribbon.

Second, the ribbon is stuck. The edge of the ribbon is defilamented and easy to entangle the ribbon pulley after hairing, resulting in the ribbon wheel being stuck, and the ribbon cannot be retracted normally into the ribbon box. The solution is: first open the printer cover, open the ribbon arm and the hammer row interlock handle, gently pull the ribbon back at the feeding end of the ribbon box, then close the ribbon arm and the hammer row interlock handle, turn on the power, and the ribbon will be installed back into the ribbon box after the self-test.

Third, the Hall effector is damaged. The ribbon is frequently cassetted, and the Hall effector is constantly squeezed, causing damage and breakage. This failure can only be replaced with a ribbon arm assembly or replaced with a ribbon motion sensor.

Fourth, the color belt active wheel drive belt is worn or broken. This failure is caused by the drive belt being used for too long or the character chain rubbing the drive belt. The solution is to adjust the position of the character chain so that it no longer rubs the drive belt; If it is broken, please replace it.

Fifth, the ribbon motion sensing signal is interrupted for no reason. First check whether the ribbon motion sensing signal cable has been damaged, if it breaks, replace the signal cable; Check again whether the ribbon motion sensing signal cable at the J6 socket on the interlock conversion board is damaged or not in good contact, please replace or plug in the signal cable.
